Karen will be reinterpreting the flowers/flora for the wedding.
Karen Kimmel’s work consistently begins with drawing. Inspired by a cross-pollination of symbols, nature, language, early cognitive development and a fascination with precision crafts, such as ikebana and needlepoint, Kimmel focuses on how people assimilate, communicate and work within the limitations of language and social systems.
Kimmel has exhibited her artwork at Mary Goldman Gallery in Los Angeles, Elizabeth Olivera Gallery in Los Angeles and Sarah Meltzer Gallery in New York, and has created activated sculptural installations for the Scottsdale Museum of Fine Art in Arizona, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Barbican in London and Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions in Los Angeles. Her work has appeared in well-known publications such as Vogue, W Magazine, Paper Magazine, Akitip, Surface and Art Forum.
Her collaborations include projects with New Editions, Aardvark Letterpress, Fendi and Nike. Most recently Kimmel's artwork appeared in “Renaissance” an exhibition curated by Blair Foltz Clarke for Salvadore Ferragamo in New York. She also partnered with Creative Growth (Oakland, CA) to curate a line of products for Marc Jacobs.
Kimmel lives and works in Los Angeles.
