House Over a Wall

Barbara Bestor is a Los Angeles based Architect who heads an office for progressive architecture. She is also the author of ‘Bohemian Modern, Living in Silverlake’ (Harper Collins 2006), a book that focuses on the suppressed narrative of informal and eccentric modernism found in Silverlake’s rich domestic architectural history. She is a graduate of Harvard College, Sci-Arc and a former professor at both of those institutions as well as UCLA.

Barbara's work is dedicated to the idea that ‘everyone should experience strange beauty everyday’, manifest in a wide range of projects from commercial spaces such as restaurants and stores for Intelligentsia Coffee, Trina Turk and Stussy: new experimental houses in Venice, Silverlake, Santa Barbara and New York City and a variety of non-profit installations including local schools, billboards, an art bouncy house, etc. Her office has been nationally and internationally published including recent pieces in the Los Angeles Times, Elle, Brutus, Domino, Angeleno and the 1st Dibs website.
